Population genomics and phylogeography of four Australasian waterfowl

چکیده

Biogeographic barriers can restrict gene flow, but variation in ecological drivers of dispersal influences the effectiveness these among different species. Detailed information about genetic connectivity and movement waterfowl across biogeographic northern Australia Papua New Guinea is limited. We compared for four species Australasian that vary their capacity predisposition dispersal: Radjah Shelduck (Radjah radjah), Wandering Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna arcuata), Green Pygmy Goose (Nettapus pulchellus), Pacific Black (Anas superciliosa). obtained >3,700 loci from double-digest restriction-associated DNA sequencing 15 to 40 individuals per found idiosyncratic patterns population structure The mostly sedentary exhibited clear differences between as well locations within Australia. Although was consistent with isolation by distance, Torres Strait Carpentaria Barrier contributed more than geographic distance alone. In contrast, presumed did not show obvious structure. Likewise, populations dispersive were unstructured genetically indistinguishable southern Our data suggest some Australo-Papuan biogeographical are insufficient impede flow capable dispersing great distances. like Shelduck, barriers, perhaps coupled its ecology natural history, flow. findings bring new insight into waterfowl.

Population Genomics and Phylogeography of an Australian Dairy Factory Derived Lytic Bacteriophage

In this study, we present the full genomic sequences and evolutionary analyses of a serially sampled population of 28 Lactococcus lactis-infecting phage belonging to the 936-like group in Australia. Genome sizes were consistent with previously available genomes ranging in length from 30.9 to 32.1 Kbp and consisted of 55-65 open reading frames. We analyzed their genetic diversity and found that ...

Comparative Phylogeography of a Coevolved Community: Concerted Population Expansions in Joshua Trees and Four Yucca Moths

Comparative phylogeographic studies have had mixed success in identifying common phylogeographic patterns among co-distributed organisms. Whereas some have found broadly similar patterns across a diverse array of taxa, others have found that the histories of different species are more idiosyncratic than congruent. The variation in the results of comparative phylogeographic studies could indicat...

phylogeography and genetic diversity of the lesser mouse- eared bat (myotis blythii) in iran

in current study, 63 samples of bat populations collected from differ regions were used for evaluating the geographic variations. twenty cranial and dental characters for traditional morphometric and landmarks method on the ventral, dorsal skull and mandible for geometry morphometric studies were used. statistical analyses of traditional morphometric and geometry morphometric data indicated low...

Population genetics and phylogeography of sea turtles.

The seven species of sea turtles occupy a diversity of niches, and have a history tracing back over 100 million years, yet all share basic life-history features, including exceptional navigation skills and periodic migrations from feeding to breeding habitats. Here, we review the biogeographic, behavioural, and ecological factors that shape the distribution of genetic diversity in sea turtles. ...

Enhancing epidemiological analysis of intercontinental dispersion of H5N1 viral strains by migratory waterfowl using phylogeography

BACKGROUND Intercontinental migratory waterfowl are the primary vectors for dispersion of H5N1 viruses and have been implicated in several zoonotic epidemics and pandemics. Recent investigations have established that with a single mutation, the virus gains the ability to transmit between humans. Consequently, there is a heightened urgency to identify innovative approaches to proactively mitigat...
